Game Decisions

 Flow Theory in Game Design:

What is Flow?

"Flow is a psychological theory that we can adapt to our games to create challenges that are both engaging and match to the players skill level"

  • We can use flow to make our game better in many places.
  • Flow is a fundamental skill that all good game developers should have a grasp on.

  • "The player should be at peak engagement"
  • "In order to keep the player optimally engaged, challenges should be presented at a level equivalent or slightly higher than their current skill, not too easy not too hard"
  • Challenge should then be increased as the players skill increases. Being aware drastic changes in challenge may cause loss of engagement.
